Still hot, still damp, still sticky! This is really turning into the endless summer – an ever-expanding Earth season. At this rate, we will be at the Autumn equinox but still needing a morning (& evening) swim. It is, however, time to anticipate the change of season and pull back on the Late Summer eating. You can only eat so many ripe nectarines after all – and now they are all over-ripe and taste a bit weird. So, seek out some more contractive foods that will counterbalance the sweet, bursting stone fruit. Explore some pungent flavours that will help reduce the damp of Late Summer: ginger, garlic, dill/fennel, horseradish (pictured in two forms – if you look really hard) and, of course, my old favourite, daikon.
